In a 2012 Cochrane systematic review, Dr. Jeremy Grimshaw, along with other researchers, evaluated the effects of audit and feedback on health professionals practice and the health of their patients. After analyzing 140 relevant studies, it was found that audit and feedback leads to small but important improvements in professional practice.

Presenting on Audit and Feedback (A&F) for this month’s IRN De/Implement webinar is Dr. Jamie Brehaut, a Senior Scientist at the Ottawa Hospital Research Institute and an Associate Professor in the School of Epidemiology and Public Health at the University of Ottawa. Participants will gain insight on the literature surrounding the efficacy of A&F interventions for de-implementation and will learn about recent recommendations and ongoing research efforts to improve A&F interventions.

This talk will 1) summarize the literature surrounding the efficacy of Audit and Feedback (A&F) interventions as a means to reduce unnecessary test ordering; 2) review recent recommendations about how to improve the effectiveness of A&F interventions; and 3) describe ongoing research efforts to develop guidance and frameworks for feedback developers and those seeking to incorporate feedback as part of health care improvement interventions.
