On May 26 2019, Choosing Wisely Canada hosted the 4th annual STARS (Students and Trainees Advocating for Resource Stewardship) Leadership Summit in Montreal Quebec. The STARS Leadership Summit brings together student leaders from across the country to exchange ideas and brainstorm ways to incorporate resource stewardship into the undergraduate medical curriculum. Thanks to the generosity and support of the Canadian Medical Association, 35 medical student representatives from 17 medical schools in Canada participated in two days of meetings, including the May 27 Choosing Wisely Canada National Meeting.

This year, the STARS Leadership Summit focused on continuing to embed resources stewardship into medical education, as well as raise students’ awareness about antimicrobial stewardship.  Students came away from the Leadership Summit feeling energized and ready to lead local interest groups and activities in support of advancing resource stewardship in medical education. Some of the priorities for the upcoming year include launching a province-wide awareness week in support of Choisir avec soin in Quebec, and developing a video series of patients sharing their stories on the harms of antimicrobial stewardship that can be shared by students across the country.
