Choosing Wisely Yukon launched September 2018 and is led by the Yukon Medical Association with the support of the Government of Yukon’s Department of Health & Social Services. Choosing Wisely Yukon is an initiative to improve health outcomes and open a dialogue between patients and health care providers. This included extensive engagement and collaboration with physicians, nurses practitioners, pharmacists and key stakeholders such as the Yukon Hospital Corporation and the Yukon Pharmacists Association.

The current areas of focus for Choosing Wisely Yukon are:

• Appropriate use of CT Head imaging in headache, head injury, syncope
• Appropriate use of sedatives in the elderly
• Bone density testing

Among the change strategies being implemented are:

• Physician education
• Patient education
• Audit and feedback
• Process changes
