Choosing Wisely Launches STARS

Dec 8, 2015 - News

Choosing Wisely Canada launched STARS (Students and Trainees Advocating for Resource Stewardship) to foster awareness amongst medical students in Canada about Choosing Wisely.

Choosing Wisely Canada is committed to engaging medical students, residents and other health professional trainees in our campaign! As part of our efforts to engage medical students, Choosing Wisely Canada launched STARS (Students and Trainees Advocating for Resource Stewardship). STARS is designed to foster awareness amongst medical students in Canada about Choosing Wisely and specialty society lists of recommendations.

To kick off STARS, we hosted a ‘Leadership Summit’ on Saturday November 14, 2015, in Toronto for medical student leaders from across Canada. A video of the day is below. These students are launching local campaigns at each of Canada’s 17 medical schools.

The STARS campaign was awarded one of six ‘Putting Stewardship into Medical Education’ grants from the ABIM Foundation. To get involved or learn more, email STARS@choosingwiselycanada.org.

Choosing Wisely Canada has released a list of ‘Six Things Medical Students & Trainees Should Question’, which has been endorsed by the Canadian Federation of Medical Students (CFMS) and the Fédération médicale étudiante du Québec (FMEQ), who together represent all medical students in Canada.
