In February 2019, The C.D. Howe Institute released a commentary titled What the Doctor Ordered: Improving the Use and Value of Laboratory Testing, stressing the distinct opportunity for quality improvement around laboratory testing in Canada.  The article, co-authored by Dr. Christopher Naugler and Rosalie Wyonch, further details the importance of prioritizing patient outcomes when it comes to lab testing, addressing variation, as well as reducing inappropriate testing and limiting unnecessary cost to the system. With over 1/3 of Choosing Wisely Canada’s recommendations being lab focused, this report offers food for thought, including interventions, health care professionals and administrators should consider when looking to focus their Choosing Wisely efforts on laboratory testing.

Join Choosing Wisely Talks, Thursday June 6th to hear from Dr. Christopher Naugler, Department Head and Professor of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the University of Calgary.
