Climate Rounds: Desflurane Needs to Des-appear
12:00pm ET - 1:00pm ET
Desflurane is a commonly used anesthetic gas, but it carries a significant climate impact. The carbon footprint of just one hour of its use is the equivalent of driving a car for 320 kilometres. With the highest global warming potential of any inhaled anesthetic, and no clinical advantage over alternatives, eliminating desflurane presents a clear opportunity to reduce health care’s environmental impact.
Join our first webinar, co-hosted with the Canadian Medical Association, to kick off a new series, Climate Rounds on February 26 at 12 p.m. ET. Experts will share practical steps for eliminating desflurane and promoting more environmentally sustainable changes at the provincial level.
Speakers:
- Dr. Krista Mahoney, Implementation Lead, Quality of Care/Choosing Wisely NL
- Dr. Anita Rao, Anesthesiologist, Trillium Health Partners and Lead, Environmental Sustainability Working Group, Ontario’s Anesthesiologists
Climate Rounds is a new webinar series by Choosing Wisely Canada that explores the health care sector’s climate footprint and efforts to minimize its environmental impact.
