Building Quality Improvement Capacity to Enable Choosing Wisely Implementation

4 Dec 2019

12:00pm EST - 1:00pm EST

It is widely recognized that implementing Choosing Wisely recommendations is a necessary next step to achieving system-level improvements in health care. However, a lack of capacity among health professions can be a key challenge in driving successful implementation efforts to reduce unnecessary use of health care resources. On Wednesday, December 4th Dr. Brian Wong, Associate Professor and Director of Continuing Education and Quality Improvement in the Department of Medicine at the University of Toronto, will be joining us to describe innovative strategies aimed at building capacity through training and education across the learning continuum.

By the end of this presentation, participants should be able to:

  1. Recognize the importance of developing quality improvement (QI) capacity across the learning continuum
  2. Describe how approaches that engage learners and faculty as co-learners can contribute to QI capacity building
  3. Apply a framework for aligning continuing professional development and QI activities to support Choosing Wisely implementation
