Dr. Jeremy Friedman, Pediatrician-in-Chief at SickKids, Toronto, addressed the importance of Choosing Wisely in pediatric practice, and discussed SickKids’ own Choosing Wisely ‘top 5’ list. SickKids, a tertiary care children’s hospital, is the first children’s hospital to develop and publish their own Choosing Wisely list. An analysis of progress and lessons learned over the first year was presented, specifically their success in reducing inappropriate overuse in the ED. Examples included nasopharyngeal testing for respiratory viruses, radiography for low risk acute ankle injuries, and more.
