Sometimes patients don’t fully understand the risks and benefits of treatment options, and sometimes clinicians don’t either! This lack of understanding often leads to overuse. In our Ipsos-Choosing Wisely Canada survey of Canadians in 2017, 90% agreed that patients need more support and/or tools to help make decisions about which services are really necessary for their health. Tune in February 1st to hear from Choosing Wisely Canada’s Primary Care Co-Lead, Dr. Kimberly Wintemute. She will discuss what the literature says clinicians could be doing better in terms of communication with patients – and what tools exist to help them get there.
