The Canadian Institute for Health Information (CIHI) discussed their ability to measure/compare Choosing Wisely Canada recommendations across multiple Canadian jurisdictions using administrative data. Currently, CIHI is working on developing a methodology to measure utilization rates associated with seven recommendations. Three recommendations were presented that are being measured across multiple regions: mammography screening, antipsychotic use for insomnia in kids and preoperative testing in low risk surgery. CIHI shared their successes and challenges, both with using administrative data and operationalizing the recommendations, as well as general lessons learned.
