Using Antibiotics Wisely: How Are We Managing Respiratory Tract Infections in the COVID-19 Era?

20 Nov 2020

1:00pm EST - 2:00pm EST

This year’s cold and flu season presents new health care challenges with the ongoing effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. Overlapping symptoms and considerations of in-person versus virtual visits has changed the way clinicians and the public respond to managing respiratory tract infections (RTI). Further challenges exist in how clinicians avoid overprescribing antibiotics with an unprecedented shift to virtual care.

On November 20 at 1 p.m. ET, Choosing Wisely Canada and the Public Health Agency of Canada will host a special virtual event during Antimicrobial Awareness Week. Dr. Jerome Leis, Medical Director of Infection Prevention and Control at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre and Clinician Lead of Using Antibiotics Wisely, will present on a practical approach to managing RTIs and how clinicians can continue antimicrobial stewardship efforts this coming respiratory viral season.
