The Cold Standard | How Can We Continue to Use Antibiotics Wisely in Primary Care?

22 Oct 2020

2:00pm EST - 3:00pm EST

Many primary care clinics have increased the adoption of virtual care in response to COVID-19. As primary care providers adjust to these changes, emerging challenges exist in how to manage respiratory tract infections (RTIs) including when to test, when to prescribe antibiotics, and when to see a patient in-person.

In response to these challenges, the Using Antibiotics Wisely campaign has revised The Cold Standard toolkit to address the management of RTIs with considerations of COVID-19 and virtual care. Join Dr. Jerome Leis, Infectious Disease Physician at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre and Dr. Allan Grill, Family Physician at Markham Stouffville Hospital and Physician Advisor, Department of Programs & Practice Support, the College of Family Physicians of Canada, on October 22 at 2 p.m. ET for a review of practical tips and tools to manage RTIs while using antibiotics wisely in practice.

Learning objectives:

  • Explore new challenges related to antibiotic prescribing with considerations of COVID-19 and virtual care
  • Perform the management of RTIs with considerations of COVID-19 and virtual care
  • Identify clinical tools that support these considerations to be used in primary care
