National Meeting Awards: Call for Nominations

Recognize a colleague, peer, or organization for their exceptional leadership in Choosing Wisely.

Our National Meeting on April 15 and 16, 2024 will be celebrating a decade since the official launch of Choosing Wisely Canada. In celebration, Choosing Wisely Canada has created awards to acknowledge the remarkable contributions of our engaged community. These awards aim to honour individuals, early-career professionals, and organizations that have demonstrated exceptional leadership and dedication in promoting the principles of Choosing Wisely Canada.

Award Categories:

  1. Clinician Excellence in Choosing Wisely Award: This award recognizes a clinician (physician, nursing, pharmacist, allied health) who has exhibited exceptional leadership and commitment to resource stewardship within their clinical practice. Nominees should have demonstrated a dedication to reducing unnecessary tests and treatments while enhancing patient care.
  2. Future Leader in Choosing Wisely Award: This award celebrates the contributions of an early-career individual who has shown exemplary leadership and innovation in advancing the principles of Choosing Wisely. Nominees can include students, residents, fellows, or any trainee involved in health care.
  3. Organizational Leadership in Choosing Wisely Award: This award acknowledges an organization, institution, or team’s exceptional efforts in promoting and implementing Choosing Wisely principles. Nominated organizations may include hospitals, clinics, health teams, or medical departments dedicated to reducing overuse.

Criteria for Nominations:

Nominees for each award category should demonstrate:

  • Leadership: Clear leadership in advocating for and implementing Choosing Wisely Canada’s recommendations.
  • Impact: Significant contributions to resource stewardship, resulting in tangible benefits for patients and the health care system.
  • Innovation: Creative and innovative approaches to promote evidence-based care and reduce unnecessary interventions.
  • Collaboration: Collaboration with colleagues, patients, and stakeholders to advance resource stewardship.
  • Commitment: A sustained commitment to the principles of Choosing Wisely Canada over time.

Important Dates:

  • Nomination Deadline: Extended to February 23, 2024
  • Awards Announcement: March 1, 2024

Award recipients will receive: 

  • A Choosing Wisely Canada award presented at the 2024 National Meeting.
  • Waived registration to attend Choosing Wisely Canada’s two-day event on April 15 and 16, 2024.
  • Recognition on Choosing Wisely Canada’s communication channels.
