In the fall of 2020, Choosing Wisely Canada, in partnership with Canadian Blood Services, launched Using Blood Wisely—a national program that aims to decrease inappropriate red blood cell transfusion practices by measuring organizational performance against national benchmarks in support of quality improvement.

This past September marked three years since the launch of Using Blood Wisely. With this anniversary, Choosing Wisely Canada is incredibly proud to share that not only have 252 hospitals from coast to coast signed up to participate, but 151 hospitals have met and maintained the program’s benchmarks to become designated Using Blood Wisely Hospitals!

At this important milestone, Choosing Wisely Canada sincerely thanks the hospitals that have signed on and congratulate those who have been designated. Their dedication and commitment to red blood cell stewardship and to the continuous pursuit of quality improvement is a laudable achievement.
