Choosing Wisely Northwest Territories (CWNT) launched in February 2018 is led by the Northwest Territories (NT) Health and Social Services Authority and works collaboratively with the NT Department of Health and Social Services

The current areas of focus for CWNT are:

  • Appropriate antibiotic use
  • Appropriate use of diagnostic imaging for low back pain
  • Appropriate use of lab testing (i.e., ESR/CRP, Vitamin D, Thyroid, Folate)
  • Rural Medicine Toolkit – strategies to reduce unnecessary patient movement from rural and remote communities for medical care, and to optimize movement when it is required
  • Red blood cell transfusions

Among the change strategies being implemented are:

  • Clinician education and resource tools
  • Patient education
  • Process changes
