Choosing Wisely Nova Scotia (CWNS) is led by the Dalhousie Faculty of Medicine and Doctors Nova Scotia. CWNS works in partnership with the Nova Scotia Health Authority, the Nova Scotia College of Family Physicians, Workers’ Compensation Board of Nova Scotia and student and patient representatives.
Choosing Wisely (CW) supports health-care providers and patients to talk openly about unnecessary tests and treatments to make the best choices for high-quality care. CW provides health-care providers with evidence-based recommendations and tools to initiate this conversation and to assist health-care providers in providing quality care. The focus and driving force of the Choosing Wisely Nova Scotia (CWNS) campaign is to improve the quality of care for all patients and reduce the potential for harm. CWNS has identified that the number of available tests and treatments keep growing, but many are only useful in specific circumstances. We are reviewing the research and identifying which medical test and treatments are overused in the local context.
